Winning streaks are difficult to come by in motorsports — particularly in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Denny Hamlin knows that first hand, but the 45-year-old driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, earned his third straight victory on Sunday at Pocono Raceway.
Hamlin started on the pole and led 28 laps of the 2.5-mile “Tricky Triangle,” but passed teammate Christopher Bell with five laps remaining to pave his path to victory lane for a record eighth time at Pocono.
The victory marks the first time in his 21-year fulltime career that Hamlin has won three consecutive races — Nashville, Michigan and Pocono.
It was also the 64th Cup Series victory of his career, moving him one spot ahead of Kyle Busch to ninth on the all-time list of winners.
