KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying sessions at Kansas Speedway were canceled due to inclement weather, with the starting lineup for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 set per the NASCAR Rulebook.
As a result, Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang Dark Horse will lead the field to green from the pole position for Sunday’s race.
“In a perfect world, we would have gotten to practice and it rained out qualifying,” Logano said. “I thought we were practicing and qualifying when I showed up at the race track this morning. The radar looked pretty good and the forecast didn’t look that bad either. I thought ‘we are going to have to do it the hard way today’. I guess it rained just enough.
“The curiosity is going to get the best of me and I am going to want to know what we’ve got. But I can wait one more night. I will be OK. I know last time we were here we didn’t have a solid run but we have been solid here in years past. Do I think we are better off than the last time we were here just from what we brought? Yes. Are we a lot smarter than we were in the Spring? Yes. All those things point me towards having some confidence.
“But, with that said, it doesn’t mean everyone else wasn’t working. Where we really stack up will be interesting to see but we will all find out tomorrow together.”
Logano, who won last weekend’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway, will share the front row with point leader Kyle Larson, who drives the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
Christopher Bell, Carson Hocevar and Ty Gibbs will start third through fifth, respectively.
The second five starters are Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Ryan Preece and Josh Berry.
