Hocevar Gets First Pole With Speedy Texas Lap

FORT WORTH, Texas — Carson Hocevar earned his first NASCAR Cup Series pole during Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday’s Würth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Driving the Spire Motorsports No. 77 Chevrolet, Hocevar turned a best lap of 28.175 seconds at 191.659 mph to earn his first pole in 56 car starts in the Cup Series.

“I think it’s really important for our group to show the strength of being able to go from practice to qualifying adjustments and where we’ve been going and be able to do that for the race, too,” Hocevar said of his Spire Motorsports team. “Just put together a whole weekend and whole race worth of adjustments, and I think we’re getting a lot closer right now.”

Point leader William Byron will start second in a Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

Austin Cindric, who won last weekend’s race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, will start third in his Team Penske Ford.

Byron’s teammate Kyle Larson took the fourth spot, and Hocevar’s running mate Michael McDowell rounded out the top five, putting four Chevrolets in the top five.

The top qualifying Toyota driver was Ty Gibbs in sixth, followed by Josh Berry, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace and A.J. Allmendinger
