Hocevar & Berry Get Fined By NASCAR

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A few hours after being suspended by Spire Motorsports, Carson Hocevar received a hefty fine from NASCAR. Josh Berry was also penalized on Tuesday evening.

The penalties resulted from aggressive incidents during NASCAR Cup Series competition at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

Hocevar was docked 25 driver points and fined $100,000 for multiple violations of Sections 4.4a of the NASCAR Rule Book: Penalty Options; Actions detrimental to stock car racing. Berry was penalized 25 driver points and fined $50,000 for the same violation.

The penalties relate to wrecking or spinning another vehicle.

“The actions that these two drivers took on Sunday felt like we needed to get involved,” said NASCAR Senior Vice President of Competition Elton Sawyer during a SiriusXM NASCAR Radio interview. “What rose to a level of real concern for us is was that they had taken the structure of the front of the car and used that as an antic or a strategy to basically ruin other drivers’ days, and we felt like we had to step in.”

Hocevar’s penalty was the result of an incident with Austin Cindric, while Berry was involved in an on-track scuffle with Ryan Blaney.
