Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell secured the pole position for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
Bell clocked in the fastest speed at 96.034 mph, out-pacing Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott by 0.017 seconds.
Behind the front two, a pair of HMS teammates in Alex Bowman (third) and last week’s winner at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Kyle Larson (fourth), followed suit.
Denny Hamlin was the second-fastest Toyota-powered driver in fifth. Chris Buescher qualified sixth ahead of defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano in seventh.
23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick qualified eighth and ninth, respectively. HMS driver William Byron completed the top-10 qualifiers in 10th.
Fall Martinsville winner from last year, Ryan Blaney, starts deep in the field in 32nd.
In his first race back since the 2019 Daytona 500, Casey Mears qualified 37th out of 38 entries.
