DGR Transporter Driver Killed

CONCORD, N.C. — David Gilliland Racing transporter driver Steven Stotts, 54, was killed in a traffic accident this morning near Longview, Texas. The team confirmed Stotts’ death in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Stotts and the DGR transporter were en route to Phoenix Raceway for Friday’s ARCA Menards Series race.

The Texas Department of Public Safety noted the incident between the DGR transporter and another vehicle occurred on Interstate 20 at around 4:25 a.m. The interstate was closed in both directions for several hours.

The team’s statement read “Our deepest sympathies go out to Steven’s family and friends…Our continued thoughts are with the driver of the second vehicle involved in the accident.”

John Zaverl and Michael Mizzelle, passengers in the transporter, were treated and released from a local hospital.
