Leclerc Tops First Miami GP Practice

Formula One’s inaugural Grand Prix of Miami weekend officially got underway Friday with the first practice session for the race weekend.

The session ended with points leader Charles Leclerc atop the speed chart.

The Ferrari driver bested Mercedes’ George Russell, posting a lap time of 1:31.098 around the 19-turn street course. Russell’s time was 1:31.169.

Defending champion Max Verstappen had the third best time at 1:31.277.

The Red Bull driver briefly sat P1, but he wound up spending a lot of time in the garage for repairs after he made contact with a wall.

The top five was completed by Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly.
