SAN FELIPE, Mexico — Supercross legend Ricky Johnson delivered a historic performance by claiming the overall victory in the Method Race Wheels Qualifying for the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250, while also topping the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend division.
It marked the first time in SCORE International history that a qualifying session was won by a driver outside the premier SCORE Trophy Truck class.
Johnson masterfully piloted the No. 1L Ford Raptor Mason AWD across the 2.97-mile race course—the shortest qualifying track in SCORE history—posting a time of 3 minutes, 39 seconds.177. He will team up with Gustavo Vildosola Sr., Mexicali, Mexico, for the opening round of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship.
Vildosola and Johnson are four-time champions in the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend class, reserved for drivers aged 50 and over competing behind the wheel of a “Desert Monster.” The duo also carries an active streak of 16 consecutive victories within SCORE International series.
The San Felipe terrain has proven to be a stronghold for Vildosola Racing Team, as the team has captured the SCORE San Felipe 250 title in the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend division for the past four years. They now aim to continue making history for Mexican off-road racing at the event known as “The Baby Baja.”
San Felipe is 125 miles south of the U.S. Border at Calexico, Calif. on the eastern side of the Baja peninsula along the azure waters of the Sea of Cortez. All four 2024 SCORE races will be held on Mexico’s magnificent Baja California peninsula for the ninth consecutive year.
Luke ‘The Luke’ McMillin delivered a standout performance in the Method Race Wheels Qualifying, posting the fastest time in the SCORE Trophy Truck and finishing second overall. McMillin completed the course near the San Felipe airport in 3 minutes, 42 seconds aboard his No. 83 Ford Raptor Mason AWD McMillin Racing.
Alan Ampudia, Ensenada, Mexico, secured second place among SCORE Trophy Truck in qualifying. The two-time defending overall winner of the SCORE San Felipe 250 clocked a time of 3 minutes, 42 seconds.716 behind the wheel of his No. 1 Ford Raptor Mason AWD Team Papas and Beer.
Gustavo ‘Tavo’ Vildosola Jr., Mexicali, Mexico, rounded out the top three in the SCORE Trophy Truck Method Race Wheels Qualifying. A three-time overall winner of the SCORE San Felipe 250 (2013, 2014, 2015), Vildosola stopped the clock at 3 minutes, 44 seconds.363.
Rob ‘The G.O.A.T.’ MacCachren posted the fastest time in the SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD division, piloting his No. 11T Ford F-150 Geiser Bros across the 2.97-mile race course in 4 minutes, 5 seconds.291.
Dave Taylor drove his No. 26T Chevy-Silverado Geiser Bros to second place in the SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD qualifying, finishing in 4 minutes, 5.557. Rising off-road star Mason Cullen will take over driving duties for Taylor in the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250.
In the Trophy Truck Spec class, Jason McNeil claimed the pole position with a time of 3:58.095 behind the wheel of his No. 234TSCO-Ford. McNeil aims to kick off the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship on a high note, teaming up on the track with his son, Connor McNeil.
With over 240 entries anticipated at the start line to launch the ‘53 years of SCORE Desert Racing Excellence’, 225 total entries have been received so far for the popular ‘Spring Break’ event, with racers representing 22 U.S. States, and 10 countries.
The countries with at least one racer so far are from United States, U.S. Territory Puerto Rico, host country Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Ecuador, France, Israel, and New Zealand.
