SPIELBERG, Austria — Pedro Acosta bounced back from a blunder during Saturday’s Sprint Race to win Sunday’s Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Austria at the Red Bull Ring.
It was the maiden MotoGP victory for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider and it comes during his third season on the circuit.
Having notched up 15 podiums without standing on the top step in MotoGP, Acosta battled his way past, and then fended off championship leader Jorge Martin, who clinched an important second-place finish to extend his lead in the title race to 12 points after Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) finished fifth.
It was Martin’s Aprilia Racing teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, who bagged the final spot on the podium, with just 0.192 seconds separating the Italian from the No. 89 over the line following a tense and riveting Grand Prix.
Ai Ogura finished fourth for Trackhouse Racing.
