Bonneville Crash Claims Racer Chris Raschke

TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Veteran land-speed racer Chris Raschke was killed in a crash Sunday at Bonneville Speed Week.

Raschke, 60, was piloting the Speed Demon streamliner when it went airborne at the 2.5-mile mark during a run while traveling nearly 300 mph. Raschke was airlifted from the Salt Flats, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Southern California Timing Association confirmed his death and launched an investigation.

Away from the race track, Raschke was the face of Automotive Racing Products. He joined ARP in 1996 and rose to become the director of sales and marketing, helping shape the company’s reputation as a trusted name in fasteners.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Patterson, and children Kenny, Kristoph, and Carly.
