Piastri Quick In Japanese GP Practice

SUZUKA, Japan — Oscar Piastri topped the timesheets in the second practice hour ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix Friday at Suzuka Circuitland.

The McLaren driver led the way and of Mercedes teammates Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.

After the Silver Arrows led a 1-2 during the day’s opening practice session, the drivers and teams returned to action for Free Practice 2, including Fernando Alonso, who was set to make his first track appearance of the weekend, having handed his car to American reserve driver Jak Crawford during the first session.

Piastri turned a best lap of one minute and 30.133 seconds to best Antonelli by .092 seconds.

Russell was third.

Lando Norris, the reigning world champion and Piastri’s teammate, was fourth on the board, while Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc rounded out the top five. Lewis Hamilton was sixth in the second Ferrari.
