BARCELONA, Spain — Formula 1 point leader Oscar Piastri turned the fastest lap during Friday’s second practice session for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver ran a lap of one minute and 12.780 seconds to lead the session for McLaren.
Mercedes wheelman George Russell was second and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took third.
Piasti believes the competition showed plenty of speed during Friday’s two sessions.
“I think Verstappen has been quick all day, Ferrari have been there, Mercedes popped up at the end, so it’s going to be a tight battle tomorrow,” Piastri said. “There are definitely still some things to try and work on.”
Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, was fourth on the board and Ferrari ace Charles Leclcerc secured the fifth spot.
