GLORY DAYS: The Wolf Howls At East Bay

Doug Wolfgang won two of the three features during the Southern Sprint Car Nationals at East Bay Raceway Park on Feb. 3-5, 1978.

Driving the familiar Speedway Motors No. 4x non-winged sprint car, Wolfgang won the Thursday night opening feature and returned for Sunday’s 50-lap, $3,000-to-win main event. He started on the pole but battled Dick “Toby” Tobias through the middle stages of the race on the third-mile dirt track.

In the end, Wolfgang took the checkered flag ahead of Tobias, Tom Corbin, Lealand McSpadden and Junior Parkinson.
