GLORY DAYS: Hewitt Does It At Eldora

Jack Hewitt turned in a crowd-thrilling victory during the USAC Silver Crown Series portion of the Sept. 24, 1988 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway.

Hewitt was racing third behind leaders Steve Butler and Larry Rice when Hewitt climbed over the rear of Rice’s machine and did a 360-degree spin on the frontstretch.

Hewitt jabbed the throttle and quickly ran down Rice and took third position.

Hewitt then pursued Butler (pictured here) relentlessly until taking the lead on lap 42 of the 50-lap affair.

While Hewitt claimed the victory, Butler was crowned series champion.
