Can Kyle Kirkwood challenge Alex Palou for the NTT IndyCar Series championship this
season? After Palou won the Indianapolis 500 for his fifth victory in six races this season, the championship appeared to be in the bag. However, Kirkwood has served notice that he and his Andretti Global team may have something to say about that.
Kirkwood picked up the first oval victory of his career on Sunday night at World Wide
Technology Raceway near St. Louis. It was his second consecutive victory and his third of the season as he and Palou are the only drivers to have won an IndyCar race this season.
With nine races remaining, Kirkwood is third in the standings, two points behind Pato O’Ward and 75 markers behind Palou.
The championship resumes this weekend at Road America.
