PERRIS, Calif. — David Gasper started on the pole but had to regain the lead late to earn his first USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series triumph Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway.
Gasper led the first nine laps of the half-mile oval, but gave up the lead to Austin Williams, who paced laps 10 and 11. Ricky Lewis took over and paced laps 12 to 15, but Williams fought back to lead from lap 16 to 23.
Reigning series champion Brody Roa started 10th and moved to the front on lap 24. Williams paced lap 26 and Gasper shot back to the lead on lap 27 and led the final four circuits.
Williams finished second, with 12th-starter Matt Westfall finishing third. Roa and Logan Williams completed the top five.
Matt Mitchell was the fast qualifier for the 22-car field.
