SEALED UNDER PRESSURE: Zach Daum Wins First ASCS Event

Zach Daum won the battle and Sam Hafertepe Jr. claimed his sixth American Sprint Car Series National Tour championship as the series concluded its 11-month campaign with Fuzzy’s Fall Fling at Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway.

It was a triumphant end to a pressure-packed season for both racers.

Daum started his No. 5d sprint car seventh on the quarter-mile race track and steadily worked his way forward, grabbing the lead from Hafertepe on lap 29 and leading the remainder of the 40-lap race.

Daum, a well-known midget racer who races sprint cars sparingly, picked up a check for $10,000.

Meanwhile, the 40-year-old Hafertepe took the checkered flag third to lift the Emmett Hahn trophy and earn an unprecedented ASCS National Tour championship.
