Sprint Rankings: Gravel Leads Final Standings

When Brent Marks took the checkered flag Saturday afternoon at BAPS Motor Speedway, it marked the end of the 410 winged sprint car season.

Four hundred ninety-five races were run with 811 drivers running at least one race.

World of Outlaws champion David Gravel wrapped up the season on top of the National Sprint Car Rankings. Gravel and the other drivers in the national standings were eligible to drop their 15 worst finishes after making 50 starts.

As a result, Gravel ended the season with 69 races, 18 victories and 14 second-place finishes.

All of his results that counted were top-five finishes. Gravel ended the campaign with an average finish of 2.246.

Buddy Kofoid ended up second in the National Sprint Car Rankings with a 3.441 average finish. Kofoid won 13 features and finished second 13 times.

High Limit Racing champion Rico Abreu was third with a 3.549 average finish. Abreu collected 19 victories in 66 races.

Danny Dietrich, who led the nation with 77 races, wound up fourth after winning 12 times and finishing second on 12 occasions.

Fifth in the final standings was Chase Dietz, who won nine times and finished second 12 times.
After 17 years of maintaining these records, National Sprint Car Rankings administrator Gary Spaid reported that five drivers have won A-Mains in all 17 seasons — Danny Dietrich, Lance Dewease, Cole Duncan, Brian Brown and Carl Bowser.

Justin Sanders (Western), Anthony Macri (Eastern), Cap Henry (Great Lakes), Joe B. Miller (Mid-America), Ryan Timms (Great Plains), A.J. Flick (PA-OH) and Jesse Schlotfeldt (Northwestern) earned regional titles.
