LAS VEGAS — Because of tremendous demand, the entry cap for the fourth annual Open Wheel Showdown Nov. 5-7 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, has been expanded.
The entry caps for the non-winged sprint cars and open-wheel modifieds have been increased, bringing the entry cap for the entire event to 290. The non-winged sprint car entries sold out at 35 on March 1, while the modified field was filled at 50.
As a result, the non-winged sprint car limit will be increased to 50 cars and the modified cap has become 60.
UPDATE: As of 7 p.m. Monday night, the non-winged sprint car and modified fields were sold out, as was the supermodified (25) division.
“Firstly I’d like to thank everyone for all the excitement and getting almost 200 entries in the first day,” promoter Davey Hamilton Jr. told SPEED SPORT. “I am excited to keep the event growing with all of you. However, I was not expecting to fill up any classes that quickly.
“I along with my team at OWS put together entry numbers we thought made the most realistic sense. We had set at 265 entries total to where we feel it’s the absolute max we can fit in the pit area currently,” Hamilton continued. “After the sell outs of two classes yesterday and many still wanting to join, we have made the decision to change the entry quantity numbers for two divisions (non-winged sprint cars and open wheel modifieds).”
In addition, 53 of the 70 spots for the headlining winged sprint car division were filled on Sunday. Entries also remain open in the supermodified, Legend Car and Bandolero divisions.
Drivers entered in the winged sprint car division include two-time Open Wheel Showdown winner Kody Swanson, Colton Bettis, Tyler Roahrig, Aaron Willison, Jake Trainor and Bobby Santos III.
Non-winged sprint car entries include Ryan Newman, Kyle O’Gara, Swanson, Roahrig, Trainor and Santos.
