FRESNO, Calif. — Fourteen-year-old Jett Barnes will run a limited scheduled of 360 winged sprint car races with Jason Meyers Racing.
While the team’s racing program is centered around Corey Day, who will run 36 races this season, it was left with an opportunity to run more races.
“We never want to close the door on opportunity,” said team owner Jason Meyers in a press release. “Our main focus this season is Corey’s program, and we intentionally built our schedule with the flexibility to support events that make sense for our team, our partners and the sport. Racing here in California is important to us, and we want to continue being part of events where our partners and supporters can come to the race track and be involved.”
With that in mind the team has created a four-race spring schedule with Barnes beginning Friday night at California’s Ocean Speedway.
“We’ve watched Jett for several years now and he’s shown a lot of promise,” Meyers said. “He’s a talented young driver, and what really stood out to us is how his family approaches the sport. Their values and work ethic align with what we believe in as a team. We’re going to put together a four-race effort and see how everything works for everyone, and we’re excited to give him the opportunity and help him continue to grow.”
The Visalia, Calif., native is ready to get started.
“I’m really blessed to have this opportunity with Jason Meyers Racing,” Barnes said. “It is something not many people get the chance to do, especially with how busy Corey’s schedule is. I’m just really thankful for Jason, the crew guys, and everyone involved for believing in me and giving me the chance to be part of their team. It’s a great opportunity to learn and grow, and I’m excited to make the most of it.”
