Lux To Join Abacus For Chili Bowl

INDIANAPOLIS — In a relationship that pre-dates Abacus Racing’s existence, Lux Racing announced it will join forces with the USAC Triple Crown winning team in an entry for the 2026 Chili Bowl Nationals.

Driving the No. 5L Indy Custom Stone sponsored car will be Manilla, Indiana, native Matt Lux.

Abacus Racing and Lux Racing have forged a bond on and off the race track over the last several years, but the foundation of the relationship started a long time ago with a friendship that is strong to this day.

John Lunsford, who is a partner in Abacus Racing, and Matt Lux have been friends for years, a relationship that started at the racetrack as well.

“Matt and I use to race together in the Baby Grand Stock Car series when we were

younger, which included my father Bob as the team owner,” Lunsford said. “Matt and I became and are still friends, and he loved what I was doing with Abacus. Since starting Abacus, any time we happened to be racing at a track together, we would try to pit next to each other. With that, Matt and the team built a bond and relationship, so it was natural for us to work together at the Chili Bowl.”

It was a sentiment Lux confirmed, saying “John and I go way back. When I saw what they were doing at Abacus and what they had built, and John’s passion there, I could not help but become a fan. Then, to get to know Kirk (Simpson, Team Manager) and Daniel (Whitley, Crew Member) and see how they worked as a team with their driver Logan (Seavey) was something great to witness, but then you see the success they have built in a their short existence, it seemed natural to put together something for the Chili Bowl.”

Lux has spent the last 3 years in the USAC Midwest Thunder Midget Series, finishing in the top five in points every year, and second in series points in 2025.

“I have had a fair amount of success in racing, but winning twice at Eldora with the USAC Midwest Thunder Midget Series is at the top,” Lux said. “Winning a championship in that series is my goal, but standing in victory lane at Eldora is something we all dream of as racers.”

Teammates to Lux at the Chili Bowl will be Connecticut’s Santino Ferrucci and Oklahoma’s Kaylee Bryson.
