PERTH, Australia — For the second consecutive year, it was Kyle Larson standing in victory lane Tuesday night after a wild battle for victory at the Perth Motorplex.
Larson started fourth and survived a furious battle with Dayne Kingshott, Buddy Kofoid and Corey Day to earn the $110,000 top prize as High Limit Racing ended its second annual three-night run at the popular venue.
Larson struggled aboard the Jason Pryde-owned No. 1k through the first two nights, but his car came to life when it mattered.
“You can never count yourself out. As much as you want to doubt things and blame it on rust, and probably the longest win drought of my career and all that stuff,” said Larson in victory lane. “Just proud of Trevor and Jason Pryde and everyone on this car for getting me great equipment and continuing to work on it.”
Monday night winner Kofoid led eight laps early before Larson surged to the front at the lap-10 mark. He set the pace the rest of the way, but had to hold off first Day and then Kingshott to claim the victory.
Day challenged Larson for the lead during the closing stages of the race, but cut a right-rear tire with three laps remaining.
After the restart, Larson held off Kingshott for the checkered flag.
“Had to execute there and feel like I did that,” Larson said. “I wasn’t the fastest at times, but when I had to I was able to step up and hammer it, and I made OK decisions there at the end.”
Kingshott finished on the podium all three nights.
Kofoid came home third, with Cole Macedo and Luke Oldfield completing the top five.
High Limit Racing will return to Perth next Dec. 28-30, with $120,000 on the line for the winner.
