CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The seventh round of the IMCA TV Winter Nationals at Central Arizona Raceway saw an increase in the pit area with 192 cars on hand.
Teams were able to join the field for two race nights over the weekend
The modified main lineup looked familiar with Dylan Thornton lined up outside row one. A great spot to start from in a search for a fifth win.
Chaz Baca chased Thornton using the bottom and made it work coming out of turn four on lap six by taking the lead.
Brandon Beckendorf got past Thornton and pressured Baca running the top while Baca stayed on the bottom.
It took 11 laps for Beckendorf to get past Baca but it took only one lap for Baca.
Beckendorf had a significant lead with five laps to go when Baca’s commitment to the bottom began to shrink the lead.
The final lap Baca got a good exit from turn two to pull alongside Beckendorf. Turn four Baca used the bottom perfectly and won the close race to the finish line.
Beckendorf settled for second and Thornton was third.
Stock cars had the usual cluster of cars battling for the lead and Shelby Williams took the win from fifth.
Northern sport mods leader was Mark Martini in front but two other drivers were with him in turn four on the last lap.
A three-wide race to the finish was won by Trevor Noonan on the top line. His narrow victory left Martini in 2nd and Tyler Johnson was third.
The evening closed with Austin Jahnz collecting the hobby stock main.
Saturday is the eighth and final night for the IMCA TV Winter Nationals.
The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV. Catch every lap again with the IMCA TV Replay Subscription, available for just $24.99/month.
