CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — An all-time record 242 cars for the IMCA TV Winter Nationals and the rain staying away made for a full program Friday for the third of eight nights at Central Arizona Raceway.
Modifieds bring the largest field at 90 entries and one of them is Dylan Thornton. Thornton won the first two nights after drawing outside front row starting spot as the nine heat winners draw.
Friday was a repeat with Thornton continuing to draw No. 2.
Thornton cruised to his third win and Chaz Baca was second but not close, and Kollin Hibdon was third.
Stock cars were led initially by Cameron Starry looking for his second consecutive win.
Starry had some pressure on him but was in control and claimed his second win. Mike Vondrak was second and Bo Partain took third.
Northern SportMods had a two in a row driver in Tyler Johnson with his pair of flag-to-flag wins.
But Tyler started seventh and Mark Martini didn’t. Martini drove 20 smooth laps for the win with Cole Suckow and Daʼnny Wagner next to cross the line.
Hobby stocks were looking at a three straight for Zach Olmstead but Austin Jahnz had another idea. On the next to last lap Jahnz drove around Olmstead in turn two and got the win.
Mod Lites were also looking at three wins for Dillon Raffurty but it was Adam Whisler who took the checkers while Raffurty was second.
The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV affiliate Done Right TV. Catch every lap again with the IMCA TV Replay Subscription, available for just $24.99/month. And don’t miss Season 2 of the Boone Docuseries, now streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
