NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Gabe Sommers captured the super late model victory on night one of the 60th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway.
Sommers was in the right place at the right time when leader Derek Kraus suffered a flat tire, taking the lead and holding it to the finish of the David Rogers feature that opened the annual weeklong series at the half-mile asphalt oval.
Sommers led Spencer Davis to the checkered flag with Max Reaves, Kyle Steckly and Michael Hinde rounding out the top five.
NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece finished sixth.
Cole Robie won the pro late model feature, while Palmer Haag topped the sportsman main event. Aaron Foye aced the bomber headliner.
