Landen Lewis Tops Jerry Moody Memorial

LUCAMA, N.C. — Landen Lewis and Kaden Honeycutt staged a classic duel in the closing stages of the 125-lap Jerry Moody Memorial I Dig Pigs 125 at Southern National Motorsports Park on Wednesday night.

After the two drivers exchanged the lead seven different times, it was Lewis who took home the $5,000 check and a very unique trophy.

“Definitely lapped traffic helped,” Lewis said. “I felt like me and him were honestly pretty even when it came to speed. Lapped traffic played a factor during the race and moved around. Just super proud of this Kevin Harvick Inc. group and excited to keep this going.”

The trophy featured a pig and several images of Jerry Moody’s race cars over the years in a race that paid homage to the longtime car owner.

“This definitely ranks up there close to the top,” Lewis remarked. “I never thought I’d win a pig in victory lane so that’s pretty neat.”

Honeycutt was able to hold on to finish second.

“I think we had a really good car,” Honeycutt said. “I don’t really know. Whenever he got to me, he flat drove straight through me so I said ‘alright, this is the way we’re gonna have to race him.’  I get it from the perspective of he’s just trying to win the race. It was just us two out there. He definitely could’ve done it a little better than that but don’t expect anything different. Just sucks. I think I made a mistake there, think I put rear brake in it too many times.”

Matt Cox finished in third while Doug Barnes, Jr. and Chase Burgeson rounded out the top five.

Spencer Bradshaw took the victory in a thrilling Legends feature over Levi Canup, making a pass in the closing laps and driving away with the win.  Paxton Smith took home the win in Bandolero competition.
