Hartwig, 14, Is New Smyrna Modified Winner

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Fourteen-year-old driver Paulie Hartwig III went to victory lane in his first Tour-type modified race Monday night at New Smyrna Speedway.

The event was on night four of the 60th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

Hartwig took the lead on lap 17 and held off Whelen Modified Tour champions Ron Silk and Austin Beers to take the 60-lap event.

“This is a dream come true, man,” said Hartwig. “It’s really cool to win here. To win yesterday with the 602 and now the Tour Mod, it was pretty damn cool.”

NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece finished fourth and Luke Baldwin was fifth.

Brody Monahan won the pro late model feature and Ryan Flores claimed the 602 modified event.
