Braaksma Stops Thornton At Central Arizona

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The fifth of eight race nights at the IMCA TV Winter Nationals Wednesday had one less class and some drivers could only race for one week.

The result was 170 cars in the Central Arizona Raceway pit area for the quartet of IMCA sanctioned classes.

The modified main was Ethan Braaksma from the start but by lap 11 Dylan Thornton was right behind Braaksma.

Traffic became a factor but a yellow flag with nine laps remaining gave Braaksma the opportunity to stretch his lead.

As Thornton got closer to the leader, 15th-starting Brandon Beckendorf suddenly came out of turn four to pass Thornton.  Braaksma held onto the front for the win with Beckendorf needing one more lap and settled for second with Dylan Thornton in third.

Stock cars were led by Cameron Starry with intense pressure from Jordan Zillmer. Lap seven Zillmar used the top of turn four to squeeze past Starry.

Six laps later, Starry used the same top four move to regain the lead. Starry stretched his lead and collected the win with Curt Lund and Kaden Woodie completing the podium.

Tim Goodwin took off with the Northern Sport Mods main until Mark Martini used the popular top of turn four line to take over.

At the halfway point Trevor Noonan used that top of four and got the lead. Noonan kept the lead the second half of the race for the win ahead of Martini and Goodwin.

In the hobby stock main, Joel Magee won the battle with Zachary Bierman for the win.

The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV. Catch every lap again with the IMCA TV Replay Subscription, available for just $24.99/month. And don’t miss Season 2 of the Boone Docuseries, now streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
