LUCAMA, N.C. — Bradley McCaskill dominated much of Friday night’s 75-lap Limited Late Model feature at Southern National Motorsports Park, but Mason Walters made him earn the victory.
Walters drove past McCaskill on the 42nd lap of the 75-lap race and looked poised to drive away, until a series of late race cautions and chaotic restarts allowed McCaskill to retake the top spot. With 10 laps to go, McCaskill made the race winning move.
“Definitely hard earned,” McCaskill said in victory lane. “None of these come easy. It’s definitely a lot of hard work and effort that goes into it. [Walters] had an amazing car there halfway through, and we had that string of cautions there at the end, got our tires cooled off and got another chance at it. We just pulled through right there at the end.”
Walters had mixed emotions about his runner-up finish.
“You show up to win, you don’t show up to finish second,” Walters said. “But second’s obviously not a bad spot to finish. Just, on one of those restarts, the top got going a little better than us and I got doored pretty heavily going into one. I think knocked my tow a little bit, got me tight on those last couple restarts. I can’t complain about a P2.”
Daniel Wilk got past Carson Haislip in the closing laps of the first of two Legend Car features, while Tommy Jackson, Jr. took the victory the chaotic second feature race. Landon Burbage and Stevie Warren took wins in Bandolero competition. In Any Car, Andrew Watson drove through the field to score the victory.
A three-hour practice session was held on Friday afternoon for the Late Model Stock Car competitors who will compete in Sunday’s headliner. Josh Berry was fastest in that practice session with a 15.440-second lap over Eloy Falcon, Conner Jones, Adam Murray and Lee Pulliam.
