Anderson Shines In Rare Driving Opportunity

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Jordan Anderson doesn’t get to drive a race car very often anymore, but when he does he generally flashes the skill level that got him to the NASCAR national series level in the first place.

These days Anderson is the 34-year-old team owner of Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport, which fields three full-time entries in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

When Anderson does drive one of his race cars, it generally comes in a superspeedway race.

Such was the case Saturday when Anderson started a third car for his team, the No. 32 Chevrolet, from 17th in the United Rentals 300 at Daytona Int’l Speedway.

As he’s been known to do, Anderson stayed in the hunt and was in position to pounce on the overtime restart. He made a charge toward the finish and came up just short, finishing fourth.

Anderson also finished fourth at Daytona in 2024 and finished second twice in Craftsman Truck Series races at the 2.5-mile superspeedway in 2020 and 2021.

“Honestly, their race played to our strategy. We were hanging out in the back the first two stages and kept getting track position and kept working on the car,” Anderson explained. “The car kept getting better, but I don’t get to do this a lot.

“So as we kept getting closer and closer, I’m like, All right, it’s go time, it’s go time. We kept getting closer. We came off of turn two on the backstretch there. I’m, like, Oh, this is it. It’s like the ‘Days of Thunder’ moment. I thought the seas parted, and we had the steam and it just kind of ran out as I got to the 21 (race winner Austin Hill) there.”

Anderson made it clear his primary job is building his race team.

“You know, a top five. Like I said, I don’t get to do this a lot. We keep working on growing this team every year,” Anderson said. “We have three cars full-time all season. This is just allowing me to connect back to why I love the sport, why I love NASCAR. A great way to kick off NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series there, their introduction to sport.

“This is a testament. Our guys work so hard all year. A lot of long hours. Chevrolet put a lot of effort in this program.”

Racing at Daytona is a full-circle moment for Anderson, who was accompanied by his young son, Banks, during his post-race interview.

“I remember coming down here with my dad as a kid. Sat in the grandstands over there,” Anderson said. “We slept in the back of my dad’s Tahoe beside the dog track. We made a weekend out of it. That’s just what this sport is about.

“It’s cool to have the next generation (Banks) of our team here. Hopefully he’ll be running it one day when I get older, but just a lot to be happy about, a lot to be thankful about, and just hopefully this is the first of many, many more to come in 2026.”
