Schumacher Signs With Mercedes In Reserve Role

Mick Schumacher will join Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team as a Reserve Driver for 2023.

Schumacher will aid with the ongoing development of the W14, along with working in the simulator throughout the year. While attending all events during the season, the 23-year-old will also perform marketing duties across the year.

“I am thrilled to be part of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team as their reserve driver for 2023, and I am committed to give it my all to contribute to their performance in this very competitive and professional environment,” Schumacher said. “I take this as a new start, and I am just excited and grateful to Toto (Wolff, Team Principal and CEO of Mercedes) and everybody involved for putting their trust in me. F1 is such a fascinating world, and you never stop learning, so I look forward to absorbing more knowledge and putting in all my efforts for the benefit of the Mercedes team.

The move comes after Schumacher spent the last two years racing for America’s Haas F1 Team. In 43 starts, Schumacher claimed points at last season’s British Grand Prix with a strong drive in eighth place. He backed it up the following week to score a career-best result of sixth at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Schumacher’s father Michael raced for Mercedes in 2010-’12, after a 10-year run at Ferrari.
