Zarco Is First Frenchman Home MotoGP Round In 71 Years

LE MANS, France — Sunday was a day that the record-breaking crowd at the Michelin Grand Prix of France at the famed Le Mans Circuit won’t soon forget.

For the first time since 1954, 71 years ago, a French MotoGP rider triumphed on his home soil as Johann Zarco rode his LCR Honda to glory.

With his team gambling on wet tires, Zarco rode home nearly 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Marc Marquez’s Ducati.

Rookie Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) came home third to score his first MotoGP podium finish.

Red Bull KTM riders Pedro Acosta and Maverick Vinales completed the top five.

Marquez moved into the point lead, and holds a 22-point advantage over his younger brother Alex Marquez.
