DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The 84th running of the Daytona 200 saw Josh Herrin win his fourth consecutive title.
The victory did not come without any setbacks, though, as the now five-time Daytona 200 champion overcame two separate pit-lane setbacks. With the win, Herrin is now tied with Scott Russell and Miguel Duhamel for the most Daytona 200 victories of all time.
Nevertheless, the 35-year-old rode his No. 2 Rahal Ducati Moto to a substantial victory, leading the field to the checkered flag by over 38 seconds. It marked Herrin’s first win with his new team, Rahal Ducati Moto.
Tyler Scott in the No. 70 M4 ECSTAR Suzuki followed behind while Herrin’s teammate, Kayla Yaakov, rounded out the podium with her No. 19 Rahal Ducati Moto.
Yaakov became the first woman to ever finish on the podium in the Daytona 200.
At only 18-years-old, the Pennsylvania native made a last lap pass on No. 53 Darryn Binder to finish in third place by less than two-tenths of a second.
On Saturday, Troy Herfoss claimed the checkered flag for the second race of the weekend for Mission King of Baggers. On the No. 17 Indian, Herfoss edged out Rocco Landers by .262 seconds as Kyle Wyman rounded out the top three.
