GLORY DAYS: Jeff Gordon In Attica Sprint

He may not have won the feature, but future NASCAR Hall of Famer provided fans with a sign of things to come as he competed in the Sept. 4, 1989 All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car event at Ohio’s Attica Raceway Park.

Driving Stan Shoff’s No. 23s sprint car that was later made famous by Frankie Kerr, Gordon qualified fifth in the 42-car field and finished fifth in a race that was won by Steve Kinser.

Kinser took the $4,000 victory ahead of home track ace Mark Keegan in what was the first All Star appearance at Attica.
