DINWIDDIE, Va. — Darryl Cuttell and IHRA have added another race track to its growing portfolio of motorsports venues.
Tommy and Judy Franklin, who have owned Virginia Motorsports Park for the past eight years, announced the sale of the 500-acre track, which is located south of Richmond.
With a concrete surface on the drag strip, the multi-purpose facility joins other tracks purchased by Cuttell Motorsports in Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and other locations.
“We have truly enjoyed the tenure of time that we have had at this facility,” Tommy Franklin said in a statement. “When we came in here, we had boots on the ground to update and enhance it to the best of our abilities and means. The gratitude and support that we received from all of you was a great motivator for keeping us trying to improve a facility that is near to our heart.
“We are passing off the baton in hopes that this is just the beginning of even more exciting times in the history of Virginia Motorsports Park. It is very evident that Mr. Cuttell has invested deeply in the drag racing community and we are anxious to see the facility continue to gro and improve in numerous ways.
“It is our belief that the facility will continue to put on great events in the years to come for racers and families alike to join and make unforgettable memories.”
The Franklins plan to continue to own and operate the PDRA Drag Racing Series.
IHRA issued a statement regarding the purchase on social media: “IHRA is proud to welcome this iconic facility to the family and continue its legacy of great events for racers, fans, and families, while working closely with Tommy and Judy Franklin as we move forward together.”
