PEORIA, Ariz. – Canyon Speedway Park resumed the Winter Series on Saturday afternoon with SWDRA late models and mini-late models headlining the final weekend of racing.
The late model feature saw drivers swap the lead every five laps. Jeff Schildmeyer led five laps before slipping up the track in turn two. Craig Parker was in position to take the lead for the next five laps.
Don Shaw used an outside pass in turn two to lead the next five laps and since nobody could catch him, he took another turn and also led the last five laps for the win. Austin Kuehl took second with John Cornell third.
The modified field repeated last Sunday’s race when Chaz Baca Jr. redrew the front row and led the entire distance with a substantial gap at the checkers between himself and Josh Cain. Jeremy Mills was third.
The stock car feature saw George Fronsman take the initial lead until Chanse Hollatz was the outer car of a three-wide trip through turn one and left turn two with the lead. Some yellows caused Hollatz no problems and the Clear Lake, Iowa, driver took the win ahead of Fronsman and Taylor Kuehl.
The Northern sport mod main event had Cam Reimers redraw the pole and that led to a dominant performance for the Kelly, Iowa, driver. Reimers was unchallenged except for one moment when Clay Erickson put a nose under the leader. Reimers made it three-straight wins in the Winter Series.
Erickson and Camron Spangler completed the podium.
Chandler Dodge led the hobby stock main until Bobby Horton drove under Dodge for the win. Contact during the pass resulted in Dodge being put back into the lead and Horton was dropped to fourth.
It took Horton six laps to drive around Dodge to regain the lead and record his fifth win in two weeks. Dodge was second and Steve Bitting Jr. finished third.
Matt Malcom won the mini-late model main.
The Winter Series wraps up Sunday.
