CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Central Arizona Speedway opened its 29-race season Friday night with three IMCA divisions on hand.Â
Zachary Madrid captured the headline modified main while Northern sport mods had Clay Erickson winning and Zachary Madrid took the stock car main.
The modifieds were led by Sean Stacy but his turn in front lasted only one lap when he suddenly drove off the track leaving turn two on the second lap. Madrid was in the perfect spot to assume the lead and was not challenged the final 24 laps that ran non-stop.
Jacob Pace was second those final 24 laps and Kelsie Foley completed a late race pass to finish in the final podium position.
Northern sport mods raced 20 laps for their main and Clay Erickson led from the green with pressure from Shelby Alves and Dakota Girard following in third.
Several restarts offered passing opportunities for Alves and one finally worked, using the bottom line to lead a trio of laps before Erickson regained the lead from his top groove optionÂ
Erickson led the final two laps for the win ahead of Alves and Girard.
The stock car main was dominated by Zachary Madrid from 3rd starting while Scott Sluka and Eric Lloyd followed Madrid across the line.
Saturday will offer the same divisions to complete the weekend.
