ALGER, Wash. – On a rapid night of racing at Skagit Speedway, Chase Goetz collected his first win in the Budweiser 360 Sprint division in a highly entertaining main event.
Nick Evans (NW Focus Midgets), Rick Smith (Modifieds) and Mike Macpherson (Outlaw Tuners) joined him as winners on the night.
While Goetz led every lap of the Budweiser 360 Sprint main event, it was never a walk in the park. Brock Lemley hounded Goetz lap after lap as Goetz had heavy traffic to deal with in the mid portion of the race.
Robbie Price got by Lemley with around five laps left and began applying his own pressure, but Goetz continually found his way past slower cars to keep the lead until Lemley tipped over after the white flag flew, setting up a two-lap dash to determine the winner.
Goetz executed a perfect restart and drove away to the win ahead of Price and Jason Solwold. Colton Heath set quick time while heat race wins went to Jesse Schlotfeldt and Cam Smith.
Goetz has now won main events in three different divisions at Skagit Speedway (360, Sportsman Sprints and Focus Midgets).
The NW Focus Midgets ran an amazing 25-lap main event with no stoppages, with the lead pack dicing and slicing through lapped cars without incident nearly the whole way.
Jared Peterson led early before leaving the low side open for Evans to sneak by on the bottom of turn four to take the lead on lap 10. Evans tried to get away, but both Peterson and Garrett Thomas stayed right with Nick as the three absolutely tore through slower traffic, lapping nearly half the field while changing lines nearly every corner to avoid incident.
Despite many attempts from both Peterson and Thomas, Evans never give the lead back as he went on for his series leading seventh win of 2021 and second of the year at Skagit Speedway.
Tristin Thomas was quick time. Heat wins went to Evans, Travis Jacobson, G Thomas and Alex Peck. Kyle Hanson won the B Main.
Twenty-five cars total signed in for competition.
Smith cashed in for his first win of the year in the Skagit Aggregates Modifieds. Smith used the low groove out of turn two to pull ahead of Craig Moore on lap 10 and never gave the top spot back in bringing the Team Geritol modified to Sage Fruit Victory Lane.
Moore rode the rim to a second place finish with Adam Holtrop running third. Holtrop and Smith won the heats.
Macpherson is three-for-three in the enhanced purse Outlaw Tuner mains on the year after passing Howard Vos on the backstretch with five laps to go in the 17-lap Tuner main. Vos tried to catch back up but settled for second ahead of Roger Burt.
It was Jon Gunderson and Burt triumphant in heat race action.
The finish:
Chase Goetz, Robbie Price, Jason Solwold, Reece Goetz, Cam Smith, Jesse Schlotfeldt, Eric Fisher, Colton Heath, Bailey Sucich, Matt Jensen, Chris Bullock, Steve Parker, Steve James, Brock Lemley, Ashleigh Johnson.
