WHITE CITY, Ore. — Kellen Chadwick scored the victory in the 50-lap R Charles Snyder Salute IMCA Modified race Sunday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.
The win paid $5,000 to the Wild West Speedweek Tour champion. Chadwick broke a rear end in Saturday preliminaries and had to scramble to get another one. He barely made the transfer from the 20 lap B Main with a fifth-place finish.
Reigning California State champion Shane DeVolder led the Main Event early ahead of Saturday night winner Troy Foulger. DeVolder set a blistering pace in leading the race for 42 laps. Foulger tried to make a move around the outside of DeVolder in traffic on lap 37 and was shuffled out of the top three by Bobby Hogge IV and Chadwick. The race changed dramatically as DeVolder was trying to lap a slower car in turn four on lap 43.
The two cars tangled. Hogge made contact but kept going as the yellow flag waved. Hogge pitted from the lead during the caution period, putting Chadwick into the lead. Chadwick led B Main winner Nick Trenchard over the remaining seven laps for the victory. Foulger settled for third ahead of Jon DeBenedetti and John Campos.
Merissa Henson won the 30-lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. Henson was driving the Donny Bottoms car, and the win paid Henson $2,000. Henson had a front row start and would lead all the way. Chase Thomas ran a close second until a yellow flag waved on lap 17. B Main winner Jorddon Braaten raced past Thomas for second on the restart and set his sights on Henson. However, Henson ran the preferred bottom groove and held off Braaten for the big victory. Thomas fell back several spots on the last lap as Craig Nieman finished third ahead of Ryder Boswell and Mike Medel.
Jeff Haudenshild won the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stock Main Event. This was his first win of the season. Dave Quick took the lead from Johnny Cobb on lap two, but he surrendered the lead to Haudenshild on lap four. Point leader Scott Lenz pitted before a lap was complete, but because of a lengthy caution period, he was able to continue. Lenz managed to grab second on a lap six restart and started pressuring Haudenshild from that point on. However, Hausenshild kept his cool took a checkered flag ahead of Lenz. Association rules cost Lenz a lap due to not returning for the first restart attempt at the start of the race. Jeffrey Hudson finished second ahead of Matt Harlow, Ken Irving and Dan Randall.
Camden Robustelli won the 20-lap SODCA Dwarf Car Main Event. This was his second win of the weekend and third of the year. Fred Hay led the first three laps before Robustelli went by on the back stretch. Hay was leading Josh King and Brock Peters in a close second place battle until King gained the position with a high pass in turn two on lap 11. King kept it close, but he was unable to make a move on Robustelli for the win. Chad Cardoza finished third, followed by Hay and Peters.
