PEORIA, Ariz. – Sunday’s second race of the four-race Winter Series at Canyon Speedway Park ran the same five divisions of IMCA-sanctioned cars as the opener the previous day.
The car count grew to 73 on a perfect Sunday afternoon.
Chad Baca Jr. redrew the pole for the modified feature. Despite several late race restarts, Baca persevered to lead flag-to-flag for the win.
Racing for the remaining podium spots went to the checkers and Matt Aukland finished second while Zachary Madrid was third by a few feet.
Chris McGurdy redrew tho pole and made full use of the position to dominate the stock car main. Chanse Hollatz was second and was closing on McGurdy but ran out of laps. Taylor Kuehl took third.
However, post-race inspection resulted in the disqualifications of both McGurdy and Hollatz for wheel spacers violation, elevating Kuehl to the win. Madrid and Paul Stone became podium finishers.
The Northern sport mod feature started with multiple yellows. When laps were finally scored, Dakota Girard led a couple laps before Cam Reimers rocketed from 10th to the lead by lap three.
The yellows continued, but Reimers remained in charge to sweep the weekend. Clay Erickson finished second followed by Camron Spangler.
Hobby stock action saw Bobby Horton waste no time taking the lead from fifth. It took three turns for the Yuma driver to take control.
A flock of yellows offered drivers an opportunity to challenge for the lead, but Horton was able to maintain his position and post the win despite late-race pressure from Chandler Dodge. Charles McDaniel followed Dodge across the line.
Sean Conyers won the mod lite main.
The Winter Series resumes next weekend with mid-afternoon races next Saturday and Sunday.
