TRAVELER’S REST, S.C. – The Mid East Street Stock Series conducted qualifying and heat races Friday at South Carolina’s Travelers Rest Speedway, ahead of the V8 Super Slam set for Saturday night.
Caleb McLaughlin was the fastest street stock driver in time trials, turning a lap of 18.665 seconds to lead the 38-car field, while Timmy Smith, Jamie Coggins, Andy Stewart and Billy Thompson won their respective heats.
Four classes – Young Guns, Thunder Bomber Futures, Pure Stocks and Front Wheel Drive – also ran full programs capped off by feature races at the three-eighths-mile dirt track.
In the $350 to win Pure Stock event, Kevin Nations took the point on the opening lap and led all 12 circuits to notch the win by just under one second at the checkered flag.
Chris Coggins drove away by 2.937 seconds from Johnathan Surratt to notch the victory in the 12-lap Front Wheel Drive main, while Hayden Atkins topped the Thunder Bomber Futures race.
Trent Blackwell won the 10-lap Young Guns feature over Bryson Lindsey and Devin Kelley.
