HICKORY, N.C. – Making his debut in a full bodied stock car, Conner Jones secured a third-place finish in Saturday’s limited late model feature at Hickory Motor Speedway.
The 13-year-old Legend Car standout from Fredericksburg, Va., started off the night by qualifying third in his Lee Faulk Racing and Development No. 2.
Once the 35-lap feature began, Jones dropped back but stayed close and eventually regained the third position later in the race. He would cross the finish line in third, earning a podium finish in his stock car race.
“I’m pretty happy finishing third in my first race,” Jones said. “The goal was to complete all the laps and stay out of trouble, but we did a bit better than that. I was pretty happy qualifying third, but to finish third in the race too is awesome.
“Thanks to my parents and everyone at Lee Faulk Racing. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to do this. It’s so cool to finish third in my first time out!”
Lee Faulk Racing and Development Director of Operations Michael Faulk said he was very impressed with Jones’ composure in his first start in a limited late model.
“Conner certainly impressed us tonight,” Faulk said. “You never would have known it was his first time in a stock car if you didn’t know him. He listened to all of our feedback and did exactly what we told him to do. He brought the car home in once piece and he finished third, which is really impressive.
“I can’t wait to see how he does once he’s gotten some more experience.”
