JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Bobby Watson’s Carteret Speedway and New River All American Speedway are joining forces to form the East Carolina Racing Alliance (ECRA), a joint series between the two Eastern North Carolina tracks.
The series will have a points championship for every division that runs at Carteret and New River. Racers’ best finishes in series races will count toward the season-ending tally.
“Excited about partnering with New River on this new series,” Carteret Speedway owner/promoter Bob Lowery said. “We’re looking to take our local racing to a new level, so make plans to join us.”
“We’re glad we were able to get together with Bob and his staff at Carteret,” New River All American Speedway operator Anthony Goodyear said. “Having both tracks working together and offering incentives strengthens the local racing scene while also encouraging racers and fans to attend both tracks.”
A points scale has been put in place which mirrors the New River All American Speedway system where drivers receive one point per position, starting at 29 points for first place and working down, with an additional three bonus points for winning.
Each race at both tracks will be tallied up, but at the end of the season, each driver’s three best finishes (including best finish at Carteret and best finish at New River) in late model and street stock, or five best finishes (including two best finishes at Carteret) for charger, mini stock, rumbler/U-CAR, bomber, legends and bandolero will count toward the final points.
A points fund will be awarded at the end of the season to the top finishers, and the ECRA championship will only be open to drivers who compete on a regular basis at both Eastern North Carolina tracks.
Along with the ECRA Championship, other incentives will take place throughout the season. Each time a competitor races at each track, their name will be entered for random drawings each month.
