Seven Winners On Davenport Dirt

DAVENPORT, Iowa — On a busy night of racing at Davenport Speedway, seven different drivers made the trip to the Hoker Trucking Victory Lane.

The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models started their evening with a tribute to Shaune Lewis of Kewanee, who passed away last week. Then it was time to make up last week’s feature. Matt Ryan shot out to a big lead early in the race that was washed away by caution flags.

On both restarts, Ryan would again establish a commanding lead. However, it wouldn’t be enough. Justin Kay, who started ninth, worked his way to second by lap 12. While Ryan was negotiating with lapped traffic, Kay made his move on lap twenty and took the lead. Justin went on to score his fourth feature win of the season at Davenport. Ryan finished second followed by Brian Harris, Joe Zrostlik and Logan Duffy, in that order.

This week’s late model feature was all Joel Callahan. The Dubuque racer grabbed the lead from the outside of the front row and held it all 25 laps. Kay started this race in the sixth row and got within a car-length at the white flag, but would get no closer. Matt Ryan came home third, with Darrel DeFrance and Andy Nezworski rounding out the top five.

The Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds were also doing double duty, making up a feature from June 19th. In the make-up, Spencer Diercks recorded his second modified feature win at Davenport this year. Diercks took the lead from Mitch Morris after an early race caution. Morris would hold on to finish second, with Bryce Garnhart third. Matt Werner and Ryan Duhme were fourth and fifth, respectively.

This week’s modified feature went green, white, checkered. Dustin Smith grabbed the early lead off his pole starting position. Lap seven would see sixth place starter Timmy Current take the point. Current would lead until the final lap, with Bryce Garnhart stealing the win at the checkered flag. Current would have to settle for second, followed by Brandon Durbin in third, Ryan Duhme fourth and Eric Barnes fifth.

Ryan Walker had to top a huge field to capture his first IMCA SportMod victory at Davenport this year. Thirty-one SportMods made the call for the feature. Walker started eighth, took the lead near the midway point of the race, and held on down the stretch for the win. Jarrett Franzen and Gage Neal finished second and third. Jared Waterman and Matt Fulton rounded out the top five.

Nick Hixson was the victor in Koehler Electric Street Stock main. Hixson took the lead from Gene Ehlers after a lap seven restart. The win was his second of the year. Jeff Struck Jr. started eighth and finished second. Third went to Donnie Louck, ahead of Jesse Owen and Rick Schriner.

Joe Lafrenz claimed his third QCjeeps.com Sport Compact win on the season. Cyle Hawkins looked dominant through the early laps of the race.
