Racing & Destruction At Davenport Oval

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The fun side of racing was on display Friday night at the Davenport Speedway.

The Night of Destruction had something for every racing fan. Cheater Races with some surprises, two classes of nostalgia racing, and the zany Trailer Race were on the agenda.

In Cheater Race action, the Outhouse and Storage to Go Container Rentals Late Model feature was won by 2024 track champion Matt Ryan. Ryan grabbed the lead from Dustin Smith after a late race restart. Smith would hold on for second, driving LeRoy Brenner’s car. John Provenzano finished third, ahead of Broderick Prescott and Gary Webb. Ray Guss Jr. raced Keith Simmons’ nostalgia late model with the modern late models.

Wangelin’s Auto Modified main went to Blaise Lewis. Early in the race, Lewis was tangled in a three-car battle with Brandon Durbin and Charlie Mohr. Blaise pulled away late in the race for the win. Durbin sailed on the high side to a second place finish, with Mohr taking third. Joe Beal and Rob Dominacki completed the top five.

Dakota Cole was the victor in the D&K Home Products SportMod feature. Cole took the lead on lap two and held it to the checkered flag. Mike Adam had a strong run finishing second. Scott Walker, Rance Powell, and Mike Clausen were third through fifth in that order.

Allen Provenzano led flag to flag in the Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock finale. Behind Provenzano were some heated battles for position. Jesse Owen emerged from the pack to take second. Landen Chrestensen was third with Anthony Franklin fourth and Blake Woodruff fifth.

The Thiesen’s Hobby Stock class was augmented by Cyle Hawkins competing in his 4-Cylinder against the Hobbies. Nick Proehl took home the win with Daniel Wauters second. Hawkins was competitive with the larger cars, finishing in third. Jamie Hixson placed fourth and Jared Miller fifth.

The Fred’s Towing & Cantrell’s Towing 4-Cylinder feature belonged to Cyle Hawkins. Hawkins led every lap en route to the win. Jacob Welter finished second. Jason Rhoads and Steve Boyle were third and fourth respectively.

In Nostalgia Stock Car Racing Club action Jeff Walker dominated in the No. 88 Dodge Charger. Stan O’Brien took second over Mark Claeys in third. Randy Christner and Zane Zimmerman rounded out the top five.

The Midwest Jalopies put on a spirited feature event in their vintage coupes. Duke Fulton edged out Chad Holladay by inches for the win. Jayson Blunt posted a third-place finish, ahead of Pat Bailey and Austin Honts.

As always, the evening ended with the fan favorite, the Trailer Race. Craig Johnson captured the win in his entry, “Real American.”
