Hurst Shifts Gears For Davenport Score

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The final night of Davenport Dirt Stars gave racers one last shot at victory lane before drawing the season to a close at Davenport Speedway.

The big money was in the Outhouse and Storage to Go Container Rentals IMCA Late Model division, where the payoff was $3,000-to-win.

When the checkered flag flew Jeremiah Hurst was the name on the winner’s check.

Hurst started third but bolted out to the early lead. Hurst would go on to lead all thirty laps en route to the victory. Travis Denning drove to a second place finish with Matt Ryan holding down third. C.J. Horn took fourth. Cory Dumpert started eleventh and finished fifth.

Ethan Braaksma picked up the win in the Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Modified feature. Ethan drew the pole position after his heat race and that was all he would need.

Braaksma led all 25 laps of the Modified feature. A spirited battle for second went to Cody Laney. Laney finished second by holding off Chris Zogg, Spencer Diercks and Charlie Mohr who were third through fifth in that order.

Tyler Bannister scored another win for the California crowd as he took the checkers in the D&K Home Products IMCA SportMod main.

Kyle Anderson made the trek from Indiana pay off as he won the Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock feature.

Lukas Short outran Eric Knutson to win the Thiesen’s IMCA Hobby Stock main. Kile Vohringer, Randy  LaMar, and Daniel Wauters rounded out the top five.

After Friday’s disappointing finish, Cyle Hawkins came back to win the Fred’s Towing & Cantrell’s Towing 4-Cylinder main. Josh Starr doing double-duty took second. Third went to Jason Rhoads.

The IMCA Mod Lites were back again to do battle on Saturday. Dan Keltner had to fend off Jason Masengarb and Austin Gray to take the win.

The Nostalgia Stock Car Racing Club was on hand to fill out an already busy night. In their feature Ray Guss Jr, worked his magic again as he drove through the field for the win. Terry Mattly finished second with Randy Christner third
