JEFFERSON, S.D. – Five IMCA sanctioned divisions brought 78 cars to a regular Sunday night program at the New Raceway Park high-banked quarter mile on a breezy evening.
Considering the days strong winds, the track remained racy, particularly out of turn four at the top. The upper groove proved very useful for winning drivers as several victories resulted from using that line.
Jason Schneiders relied more on starting position to win the modified main, holding off Chris Mills’ effort over the last two laps for the win.
Stock car action saw Travis Barker use the top line exiting turn for to take over early to win after starting ninth.
Keegan Nordquist overcame a two position penalty early in the sport mod main to lead the final five laps to win. A jumbled restart early in the race scrambled the front runners as some drivers thought the green wasn’t thrown.
Hobby stock racing had multiple yellows, leading to a shortened main on time considerations. Zach Bales was leading when time expired to take the win.
Sport compact action showed Connor Brown winning from 10th.
The event also had a kids candy toss and supported an Autism Awareness fund raising effort.
Next Sunday New Raceway Park hosts the opening race in the five night Midwest Madness Tour.
