DAVENPORT, Iowa – With three make-up features on the agenda, it was a full slate of racing Friday night at the Davenport Speedway.
When the night was over, eight different drivers had made the trip to the Hoker Trucking victory lane.
IMCA SportMods kicked the evening off with their make-up feature. Brandon Jewell jumped out to the early lead. On lap 11, Gage Neal and Matt Fulton were able to get past Jewell. Neal would continue on for his third victory at Davenport this year. Fulton took second, with Jewell third.
This week’s SportMod main started the same way. Brandon Jewell grabbed the early lead and held it through a slew of caution flags and restarts. After a lap-12 restart. Jared Waterman got around Jewell and captured his first feature win of the season. Jewell finished second. Gage Neal finished third, after being in an early race caution. Ben Chapman and Ryan Walker rounded out the top five.
The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature was a familiar song. LeRoy Brenner led twelve of the first thirteen laps. On lap 14, ninth place starter Justin Kay took the lead and would drive to his fifth feature win of the season at Davenport.
Naturally, Matt Ryan would come on to finish second. Ryan has finished second in all Kay’s five feature wins. Chuck Hanna finished third, followed by Joe Zrostlik, and Gary Webb, in that order.
The Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds also saw numerous cautions flags. Jason Bahrs, Jason Pershy, Bryce Garnhart and Ryan Duhme each had a turn at the lead before the race reached the halfway point.
On lap 13, Brunson Behning went to the lead. After a lap 16 restart, Ryan Duhme would retake the lead briefly, with Behning leading the rest of the way to the checkers. Duhme took second, with Garnhart third, Travis Denning fourth and Terry Rentfro fifth.
Nick Hixson was the victor in Koehler Electric Street Stock make-up feature. Hixson took the lead on lap eight. The win was his third of the year. Jesse Owen finished second. Third went to Robert Cottom, ahead of Zachary Zuberbier and Jeff Struck Jr.
This week’s late model feature was all Jeff Struck Jr. Struck took the lead on lap three and set sail for the checkered flag. Nick Hixson finshed in the runner-up spot. Gene Ehlers, Matt Fabrizius, and Joe Bonney were third through fifth, in that order.
Joe Lafrenz claimed the QCjeeps.com Sport Compact make-up feature, leading every lap. Brandon Dahl fought hard to finish second. Cyle Hawkins, Shawn McDermott, and Ashley Rueman filled in the first five spots.
This week’s feature was Cyle Hawkins time to shine. Hawkins scored his first feature win of the year at Davenport. Brandon Dahl recorded shis second second of the night. Shawn McDermott took third, ahead of Joe Lafrenz and Dustin Forbes.
