Champions Crowned At Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Stock car racing returned to the Davenport Speedway Friday night with only one thing on the agenda — track championships.

A new wrinkle to the race format was a drawn invert number for the feature starting line-ups. The point leader in each class had to draw from 2,4,6,8, or the entire field, for the invert. No one drew the field.

Travis Denning captured his third Outhouse and Storage to Go Container Rentals IMCA Late Model feature win of the season. Late model point leader Matt Ryan pulled a four for the invert. By lap four of the main, Ryan was in the lead.

Travis started tenth and quickly moved through the field. On a lap 12 restart, Travis pulled away with the lead. Ryan would finish second with Mitch Morris holding down third. Joe Beal and Cruz Birkhofer rounded out the top five.

By starting the feature Matt Ryan clinched the late model track championship. It is his fifth Davenport title in the last 10 years.

After having a win taken away from him two weeks ago, Spencer Diercks was out for payback in the Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Modified main. Diercks again started mid-pack but wasted no racing towards the front. Spencer would have to pass point leader Chris Zogg for the lead and the win. The victory was Diercks’ third of the season. Zogg would take second, ahead of Charlie Mohr in third. Ben Chapman and Kyle Montgomery finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Zogg claimed his second Modified crown at Davenport. His closest competitor Matt Werner received damage to his racecar in the heat race and competed In the feature, in a barrowed ride.

Logan Veloz completed his championship season at Davenport in style. Logan won his eighth D&K Home Products IMCA SportMod feature of the year. Logan led all fifteen laps of the race.

Cole Stichter drove to a second place finish. Joe Docekal started 20th and would finish third. Josh Starr took fourth, ahead of Tyler Maschmann.

Tony VonDresky posted Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock feature win number six of the season. He also earned his third Street Stock title at Davenport. Tony started fourth and led fourteen of the 15 laps in the race. Donnie Louck finished second, with Jesse Owen third, Andrew Burk fourth and Austin Riggs fifth.

Jordan Miles put the cherry on top of his track championship. Jordan captured his fourth Thiesen’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature win this season. He started eighth and led the last fourteen laps of the main. Daniel Wauters scored a second-place finish. Jimmy Doescher, Nick Proehl and Karter Miles finished third through fifth, in that order.

Cyle Hawkins just keeps racking them up in the Fred’s Towing & Cantrell’s Towing 4-Cylinder class. Hawkins now has six feature wins in the 2024 season. Shawn McDermott took second place honors. Dustin Munn, Alex Hayes, and Bart Brockman rounded out the top five.
