Aikey Dominates At Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Jeff Aikey dominated the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model division during the second race of the season Friday night at Davenport Speedway.

Joel Callahan jumped out to the early lead of the feature, but that would only last one lap. Aikey led the twenty-four remaining circuits en route to the win. The feature went caution free. Justin Kay came from eighth starting spot to finish second with Justin Kay taking third. Joe Zrostlik and Joe Ross rounded out the top five.

Just like the late models, the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified main started with Jeff Larson leading lap one. Spencer Diercks took over on lap two and looked to have the field covered. That was until a plume of smoke came from under his hood on lap nine. Diercks’ race was over, but did not bring out the caution. Bryce Garnhart grabbed the lead and held it to the checkered flag. Minnesota racer, Billy Kendall III, finished second, followed by Jeff Larson, Jeff Aikey, and Grey Ferrando, in that order.

Gage Neal won his second straight IMCA SportMod feature. Neal started ninth and drove from fifth to first, after a lap three restart. Shane Paris had a strong showing in second. Jayden Schmidt took third, followed by Jarrett Franzen and Ryan Walker.

Nick Hixson led the Koehler Electric Street Stock feature led flag to flag. Donnie Louck finished second with Darrell Dick third. Jeff Struck Jr. finished fourth and Nick Claussen fifth.

The QCjeeps.com Sport Compact feature was won by Matt Mackey, on his first visit to Davenport Speedway.
